388T bags from Vietnam NFA: Rice supply to arrive next week (Sabong News)
CEBU, Philippines - In order to augment its existing rice inventory and to ensure food security for Central Visayas, the National Food Authority will be receiving its initial allocation of imported rice this month.
NFA-7 Director Efren Sabong said that they are expecting to receive the 19,400 metric tons or 388,000 bags of rice next week from Vietnam. The shipment is part of the 500,000 metric tons that the government will import under a government-to-government agreement.
Sabong said they have already prepared the necessary logistical requirement for the incoming stocks.
Sabong advised the consuming public not to be alarmed of the reported depleting rice supply because the NFA Central Visayas still has a comfortable level of rice inventory stored in its warehouses to meet the food requirement of the region.
He added that NFA rice distribution to accredited NFA rice retailers will go full blast as holiday season is fast approaching and increase in the demand for rice is expected.
Sabong also assured that it has not increased the price of NFA rice, as it remains at P27 per kilo. The NFA is also regularly fielding its price monitoring teams to ensure the visibility and availability of NFA rice in the markets./
