Bongbong Marcos on gov’t decision to exhibit his mother’s undergarments: ‘Why do they have to do that?’

A new book recalled the first time President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. toured Malacanang after his family was booted out of power in 1986. In one of the chapters of the book “Behind the Red Pen: My Adventures with FVR,” its author Jojo T. Terencio recounted that the tour happened on Sept. 1, 1992, after Bongbong was elected congressman representing the Second District of Ilocos Norte. The book stated that Bongbong went to the Palace along with together with elected officials from Northern Luzon to take oath as members of the Northern Alliance before President Fidel V. Ramos. In the chapter entitled “Palace tour with Bongbong Marcos,” Terencio said that the event was not open to reporters, meaning only photographers and Palace close-in coverage team were allowed to cover. Then Isabela Rep. Rodolfo Albamo told Palace staffers: “I am telling you, one day, a Marcos will again be in Malacanang. I am serious!” according to the book. “Bongbong was just smiling all throughout.” Terencio, former presidential close-in reporter, said that Bongbong was excited to visit his bedroom. Unfortunately, it was locked. He then went to the rooms of his sisters Imee and Irene which have been rearranged. But Bongbong became emotional when the bedroom of his mother Imelda Marcos was in almost the same state. He was shocked when the undergarments of his mother were exhibited to the public. “My God, why do they have to do that?” Terencio recalled Bongbong as saying. Following the oath-taking, Bongbong was asked by the photographers to pose beside the portrait of his father. He obliged but he was very specific not to include in the frame of the portrait of President Cory Aquino. “I don’t want her to be in the picture,” Bongbong said. Terencio described President-elect Bongbong as nice and good-looking. The book, published by Heidelprint Asia, Inc., also featured former first lady Imelda Marcos in the chapter “An encounter with Imelda Marcos.” “Behind the Red Pen” takes the readers back to some of the key events and personalities during the six-year-presidency of Fidel V. Ramos from 1992-1998. The book provides the readers the opportunity to know FVR as a leader and as a boss, Terencio said. “It also gives us a glimpse of the private persona of the country’s 12th president.” “The title of the book gets its inspiration from FVR’s ubiquitous red pens, which he used since his military days to issue handwritten memoranda, marginal notes, and directives,” the author added.
