Veteran entertainment journalist Aster Amoyo holds the distinction of being the only showbiz journalist to have interviewed power couple Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his wife lawyer Liza Araneta-Marcos together prior to the national election.
Recalling the memorable interview during her birthday lunch in Morato, Quezon City on May 12, Aster said that she almost gave up on the Marcoses interview due to the tight schedule of the couple.
“I just took my chances and I went through a process. There were some delays because of their hectic schedule. I almost gave up. Finally, I was given a schedule, and it was worth the wait,” Aster said.
The interview for her online show “Tic Talk With Aster Amoyo” happened at the couple’s residence in Forbes Park, Makati City. Prior, the staff of the Marcoses requested sample questions from her. But she said that she does not prepare questions, adding that she prefers an impromptu interview. Aster also said the video interview was almost not uploaded on YouTube.
“After I interviewed Bongbong and Liza, Toni Gonzaga-Soriano featured Bongbong in ‘Toni Talks’. But it was Toni who first uploaded. We all know what happened when Toni posted her interview with Bongbong. Then a staff member from the office of Mr. Marcos requested If I could hold the video because of what happened. I told them I cannot postpone its release because I already had a teaser. Mapapahiya naman ako,” Aster recalled. Then she uploaded the video interview on YouTube as scheduled.
The video interview debuted to positive reviews on Sept. 17, 2021. It only focused on the love story of Bongbong and Liza. As of May 12, the video has been viewed 2.9 million times.
Aster said that she didn’t really expect that she would be given the chance to interview the Marcoses. She intended to feature the top five presidential aspirants prior to the campaign period. Yet, she only got lucky with Marcos and Manny Pacquiao.
“I really thought my very first interview for the presidentiables would be Isko Moreno. I had high hopes that Isko would be my first feature among the five personalities, since both of us came from show business. Unfortunately, the interview never happened. Ping Lacson and Leni Robredo were also busy to be interviewed,” Aster said.
Aster also said that she almost gave up on Manny due to a series of postponements and delays in their schedules. She thanked the Marcoses and the Pacquiaos for being gracious hosts during the interviews.
Asked about one of her wishes for her birthday, Aster said: “I wish that I would have one million subscribers for my YouTube Channel.” “Tic Talk with Aster Amoyo” drops at 12 noon every Friday.
