Still dreaming about Met Gala 2022? You are not alone. Last May 2, celebrities, fashion elites, and other notable personalities presented their modern and contemporary looks inspired by the late 19th-Century dressing attitude in America with its theme “Gilded Glamour.” And representing the Philippines on fashion’s biggest night were Fil-Am artists Olivia Rodrigo, Evan Mock, and Vanessa Hudgens.
Vanessa, who served as one of the Met Gala 2022’s red carpet hosts, donned a sheer black ensemble crafted by American fashion designer and creative director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott. Through an Instagram post, the former “High School Musical” star revealed that the dress also honored her Filipino roots.
“I was so obsessed with this dress (still am) for so many reasons,” she posted. “A. it was designed by a friend Jeremy Scott who knows the real me; B. The silhouette is actually historically correct for the Gilded Age theme; C. I got to be the glamorous witch that I am; and D. The puff sleeve pays homage to my Filipino heritage.”
Looking at the sleeves’ silhouette, they resemble what seems to be the butterfly sleeves or the Flipino classic terno look. “Truly a magical one,” Vanessa described the dress, and we couldn’t agree more. In the US, May is observed as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
