The Philippine beach handball team fell short to powerhouse Vietnam, 14-18, 21-14, 10-8, to assure itself of the silver medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Tuan Chau, Quang Ninh in Vietnam.
Needing a victory to claim the gold medal, the Filipinos settled for the runner-up honors regardless of the result of their final game against winless Singapore Wednesday.
Vietnam’s victory assured them of retaining the gold medal.
The PH team’s silver-medal feat eclipsed the team’s bronze-medal performance at the previous edition that the country hosted in 2019.
The team is composed of Daryoush Zandi, Dhane Miguelle Varela, Josef Maximillan Valdez, Rey Joshua Tabuzo, John Michael Pasco, Jamael Pangandaman, Manuel Lasangue, Jr., Andrew Michael Harris, Mark Vincent Dubouzet and Van Jacob Baccay.
