Robredo caps Mindanao campaign with much at stake: ‘Ang ating laban hindi natatapos sa eleksyon'
Author Raymund Antonio
Date MAY 05 2022
Win or lose, presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo said on Thursday, May 5, that the fight doesn’t end on Election Day because she needs the Filipino people alongside her to fulfill her promise of good governance, transparency, and accountability. Her volunteer-driven campaign season showed as much with her supporters doing house-to-house campaigning for a chance to elect a “clean” and “honest” government. “Ang ating laban hindi natatapos sa eleksyon. Mas may malaking laban tayo pagkatapos ng eleksyon. At inaasahan ko po, kasama ko pa din kayo sa laban na ‘yun (Our fight doesn’t end with the elections. There is a bigger fight after the elections. And I trust, you will join me in that fight),” she said during the Ozamiz City People’s Rally held at the Misamis University Covered Court. In the campaign homestretch, Robredo completed her tour of Mindanao through an Oroquieta multi-sectoral assembly at the Provincial Cultural and Farmers Training Center, followed by the Ozamiz City People’s Rally and the “Angat Buhay Agusan del Sur: Liyag Para Kay Leni” People’s Rally at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. With only two days before the campaign period ends, Robredo promised a kind of government that the people will “feel” is working for them if she becomes president. “Mararamdaman niyo na ang gobyerno malinis at matapat, para lahat tayo nagtutulungan (You will feel the government is clean and honest, so all of us will help each other),” she said. “Hindi ko po sinasabing napakahusay ko, na kaya ko ang lahat ng problema natin. Pero ang sinasabi ko lang sa inyo, kasama ko kayo sa paglutas ng problema ng ating bansa (I am not saying that I am the greatest, that I can solve all our problems. But I am telling you, I am with you in solving the problems of the country),” she added. The aspiring president said as much in her speech in Agusan del Sur, which drew 70,000 people, according to local organizers and police. Her dream if she becomes president is for everyone to be proud of being a Filipino. “Samahan niyo po ako hindi lang hanggang May 9, pero samahan niyo ako kapag tayo ay nanalo na (Join me not only until May 9, but join me when we win),” she said. “Kailangan ko po ang tulong ng bawat isa sa inyo (I need the help of every one of you),” Robredo added. The Vice President will hold her miting de avance along the stretch of the historic Ayala Avenue, also the birthplace of resistance during the first People Power Revolt in 1986, on Saturday, May 7. “Ang iboboto po natin hindi ang kandidato, pero ang iboboto natin ang mahal natin bayan Pilipinas (We will vote not for the candidate, but we will vote for our beloved country Philippines),” she reminded her supporters.
