President Duterte on Wednesday night compared the discipline of the military with that of the police as he described the former to be well-behaved.
“Alam mo itong mga military, matitino ito. Alam mo kung bakit? Hindi nakakalabas ng kampo ‘yan (You know, members of the military are well-behaved. You know why? Because they cannot go out of their camps) They cannot go out of the camps unless in-authorize ng (authorized by their) camp commander,” Duterte said during the inauguration of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila.
The President made the pronouncement as he recalled the sacking of the immigration officials involved in the “pastillas scheme.” Like these officials, erring police officers could just be transferred to another jurisdiction, where they commit another crime, he added.
Duterte also noticed that his security detail during the event, who are police officers, were gossiping outside.
“Makita mo ang diperensya ng disiplina (You can see the difference of discipline),” he said, adding the police officers could just log in their blotters that “they are ready for work and they go out and enforce the law.”
Duterte said he “loves” the police, unless they commit a crime, including involvement in illegal drugs and the disappearance of e-sabong enthusiasts.
He said police officers could only do that because “it has to be somebody or they have to be men of authority” to go inside the houses, “and usually the military do not enter the houses.”
