FOLLOWING President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to cease e-sabong activities, the government-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) projects a revenue loss of up to P5 billion this year.
"We estimate the revenue loss to be between P4 billion to P5 billion for 2022," Andrea Domingo, Pagcor chairman and chief executive officer, told reporters in a message on Tuesday.
She said that Pagcor must promptly implement the President's directive to end e-sabong operations.
When asked how Pagcor will enforce Duterte's order, Domingo said the Executive Secretary will issue a formal memorandum to that effect, and the state-run firm will notify its licensed e-sabong operators.
"We will also inform the CoA (Commission on Audit) auditor officially that starting today, there will no longer be revenues collected from e-sabong operations," she added.
Domingo previously said as the country's Covid-19 pandemic situation improves, Pagcor's total gaming revenue could rise to P60-65 billion this year. It is "almost twice as much" the P32.63 billion recorded last year.
