Omega Esports earned its right to defend its Mobile Legends: Southeast Asia Cup title after a dominant 3-0 sweep of TNC Pro Team ML in their best-of-five lower bracket finals in the MPL Season 9 playoffs at the SMX Convention Center in Sunday, May 1.
Omega put a bitter end to TNC’s dream run as Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog, Christian “Raizen” Sumagui and Patrick “E2max” Caidic showed the way in the three-game sweep and set up a Grand Finals clash against RSG Philippinies later in the day.
A huge 16-11 Game 1 win set the tone for the rout as both squads engaged in nerve-wracking team fights led by excellent setups from their respective tanks in Ch4knu and Ben “Benthings” Maglaque.
TNC though lost steam in the late game especially during the clash for the Lord evident when Omega picked off SDzyz’s Lancelot to even the match.
A pick-off on two heroes of TNC in the next clash allowed Omega to secure the next Lord that proved to be enough to draw the first blood, 16-11.
Kelra on the Clint finished with a 6-2-4 line while E2max added a 4-3-11 KDA on the Lylia.
It was the same story in second game as TNC seized control at the onset behind the efficient farming from SDzyz. TNC even scored a four-man wipe of Omega, initiated by a perfect Yin-Yang overturn from Escalera’s Kagura.
However, just like in the opening game, Omega only needed to win one huge clash to turn things around.
That came during the 19-minute Lord fight where the MSC Kings scored a wipeout on TNC to take a 17-10 win and a commanding 17-10 lead.
TNC tried to challenge Omega in its own comfort late game heroes in Alice on the EXP lane and Yasuwo’s Clint. The ploy however backfired as E2max on the Cecilion, Kelra on the Claude and Renzio on the Esmeralda took over in the crunch time.
Ch4knu also provided the perfect sets on his Atlas to close out the series, 21-16.
