The submission of the list for tricycle drivers to benefit from fuel subsidy program of the national government should be extended, senatorial candidate Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said.
This, as reports disclosed that only three regions have submitted names of tricycle drivers who are qualified to receive fuel subsidy.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the deadline for the submission of the list was set on Friday, April 29.
“The deadline should be extended to accommodate more tricycle drivers to avail of the program. Just like other members of the transport sector, tricycle drivers were also seriously affected by the pandemic,” said Eleazar.
He cited the importance to extend the submission of the list amid the continuous increase in the price of oil products.
Meanwhile, he also called on the remaining local government units to submit their list of names.
Eleazar has vowed to fight for the welfare of tricycle drivers should he win in the 2022 senatorial race. He is eyeing to give them more benefits and livelihood assistance.
Around 1.2 million tricycle drivers and operators are included as beneficiaries for fuel subsidies, the DILG said.
It was in March when the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board began the distribution of P6,500 fuel subsidy to more than 377,000 qualified drivers and operators of mass transport vehicles.
