The Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 Asia Pacific Super Quest was rescheduled to become a one-day event on Saturday, April 30 as regional teams decided to back out due to Vietnam’s strict implementation of the closed bubble setup for the squads that will action in the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
Chooks-to-go Pilipinas 3×3 made the announcement on Tuesday, April 26 as the tournament was moved this coming weekend at the Ayala Malls Solenad’s Activity Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Nonetheless, the matches are still expected to generate the same level of excitement and competition as new teams are set to arrive to fill the void.
“We understand the strict health and safety protocols being implemented by the SEA Games Organizing Committee that forced us to re-tinker with the format of the tournament,” said Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas. “But with the Manila World Tour Masters also next month, we can’t postpone our tournament.
“That is why we invited new teams that will compete in our tournament and re-structure it with the format used by Dubai during its Super Quest last month,” the sportsman continued.
Cebu Chooks banner the Philippine representatives along with Manila and Butuan Chooks.
They are expected to face an acid test in the competition with defending Asia Pacific Super Quest champion Tokyo Dime of Japan flying in along Zaisan MMC Energy and Sansar MMC Energy of Mongolia.
Also joining the fray is Tangerang team of Indonesia, which recently won the 2022 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) 3×3 International Champion’s Cup spearheaded by naturalized player Jamarr Johnson.
The eight teams competing will be separated into two pools with the top two squads advancing to the knockout semifinals on the same day. Besides a ticket to the Manila Masters, a $10,000 prize awaits the champion while the second placer will pocket $5,000.
