Filipino shuttlers fell like dominoes in the qualifying round of the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships Tuesday at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
Jewel Angelo Albo lost his matches in the men’s singles group stages, bowing to China’s Lei Lan Xi, 21-17, 21-15, and Hong Kong’s Yin Chak Chan, 21-8, 21-10.
Veteran Ros Pedrosa almost made it to the main draw with a 21-19, 21-8 victory over Adnan Ebrahim, but eventually lost to Kazakhstan’s Dimitriy Panarin, 21-14, 21-8.
In the women’s side, Jaja Andres yielded to Indonesia’s Stephanie Widjaja, 21-10, 21-8, while Mikaela De Guzman succumbed to another Indonesian in Mohd Kjairul Miyisha, 25-23, 21-8.
Main draw matches in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles are being played at presstime.
Meanwhile, women’s pair Eleanor Christine Inlayo and Susmita Angelique Ramos clash with Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan in Wednesday’s Round of 32 main draw, even as Aira Mae Nicole Albo and The Marie Pomar collide with Hong Kong’s Ng Tsz Yau and Tsang Hiu Yan.
