It will be a homecoming of some sort as the NCAA returns to the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan in time for the much-anticipated clash between Letran and San Beda in the final day of the eliminations on Friday, April 29.
The NCAA Management Committee announced the development on Saturday, April 23 as the rest of the playoffs will also be played in the San Juan venue.
NCAA is also expected to welcome the fans back although there’s no official word yet from the league regarding the matter.
Nonetheless, the teams will have some sense of normalcy when they return to the venue which hosted most NCAA games in the past seasons.
Perpetual Help and Emilio Aguinaldo College battle in the curtain-raiser at 12 noon before the Letran-San Beda clash at 3 p.m.
The rematch of the Season 95 Finals is also deemed crucial for the rival squads as they are currently the frontrunners for the top 2 seeds of the eliminations which will merit them an outright semifinals berth.
It won’t be a battle of undefeated teams however as San Beda suffered an upset defeat at the hands of Mapua on Saturday. The Red Lions now need to sweep their last two games. If not, they need to hope that the Cardinals lost their final assignment as a tie between them at 7-2 would have the latter getting the semis spot.
Letran, meanwhile, already has its one foot inside the semis door after preserving its perfect 7-0 record for a solo lead in the standings. It only need to win one of the its last two games to secure the spot.
The play-in will be on May 1 and 4 while the semifinals kick off on May 8 and May 11 if needed. The first two games of the best-of-three Finals will be in the San Juan Arena while the Game 3, if necessary will be in Mall of Asia Arena.
