5 students, 1 OSY dead as vehicle falls into deep Mt Province ravine (Sabong News)

BESAO, Mt. Province – Heavy rains and slippery roads caused a vehicle to fall into a 100 meter-deep ravine that resulted in the death of six of its eight passengers in an accident that occurred in Besao Mountain Province on April 21.
Authorities identified the victims as Rhema Sumingwa, 18, from Besao National High School; Merley Docyogen, 17, from Saint James High School of Mountain Province Incorporated; Lyndell Keith Alfonso, 19, out of school youth; Hazel Solang, 19, Saint James High School of Mountain Province, Incorporated; Dalog Mangallay (driver and owner of the vehicle), 19, and Johnwin Aligan, 21, both from Panabungen School of Arts, Trades and Home Industries (PSATHI).
Two passengers miraculously survived the accident. They were Lander Maticyeng, 17, from PSATHI; and Novelyn Sagantiyoc, 18, from Besao National High School. The two are now being treated at Besao District Hospital.
During the investigation, the Besao Municipal Police Station received information from a concerned citizen that a vehicle fell into the ravine from the road in Sitio Bunga, Barangay Catengan, Besao, Mountain Province, at around 4:30 p.m.
Police personnel, Bureau of Fire Protection-Besao, Besao Municipal Health Office, Philippine Army, Barangay Officials and community members of Sitio Bunga immediately responded and saw the vehicle totally wrecked.
The six passengers were declared dead on the spot by Dr. Joy Dicdican, municipal health officer who also went to the area.
MSgt Robinson Calngan of Besao MPS said the incident was only discovered when a resident who was going to the farm happened to see a survivor asking for help.
Investigators are still awaiting the two survivors for further details on the accident.
According to Calngan, the remains of Sumingwa and Docyogen have been brought to their respective homes, while the remains of Alfonso, Solang, Mangallay and Aligan are scheduled to be brought today to their place in Quirino, Ilocos Sur.
