As Metro Manila braces for the return of the 2nd Worst Traffic in the world according to the Tomtom traffic index of 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic, leading motorcycle ride-hailing service Angkas held the Angkas Safety Fiesta. The event was aimed at inspiring the company’s professional riders to maintain the company’s nearly perfect safety record.
Angkas CEO George Royeca heaped all the credit for the safety record of Angkas on the rider partners he addressed: “99.997% ang safety record ninyo, pagkatapos ng milyong milyong na bookings, palakpakan po natin ang isa’t isa. Ang Angkas po, ang management, hindi po kami ang nakagawa, ng success ng Angkas. Hindi ho ito dahil sa amin, dahil ito sa inyo.” Your safety record is 99.997% after millions of bookings, give each other a big round of applause. Angkas management, didn’t create the success of Angkas, you did.
Angkas Head of Operations David Medrano reminded the 3,000 riders in who attended how the public has come to depend on them: “Inaasahan tayo ng ating mga pasahero, na patuloy na mabalik sa kanila ang kalayaan. Kalayaan para kumilos, pumili ng oras na umalis sa kani-kanilang mga bahay, sa kani-kaniliang mga trabaho, dahil merong Angkas na mag sasalba sa kanila.” Our passengers are counting on us to continue to give them back freedom. The freedom to choose when to leave their houses, or leave their offices when they want, because Angkas is there to serve them.
The Safety Fiesta is one of many activities Angkas does to maintain the company’s enviable safety record. The day was well and truly a safety fiesta for the bikers, who were treated to a day of fun and relaxation.
There were celebrity-powered performances on stage from This Band, Because, the D & G Dancers, and the Sexbomb New Gen. There were free massages and free haircuts.
Most of all, the day’s activities were aimed at refreshing the rider partner’s safety habits, riding skills, and even soft skills for a more friendly and customer-focused experience. There were expert-led talks on advanced motorcycle and road safety, proper hygiene, and customer service and harassment. Riders also got to show off their skills at a gymkhana event.
Cash prizes were raffled off in the latter half of the day, and the grand prizes were three brand new motorcycles.
