The PBA Governors’ Cup Finals once again reset the attendance record for a sporting event during the pandemic after 18,251 people showed for Game 5 of the series Sunday, April 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Not even the tailend of the lenten season prevented fans from filling the Big Dome seats, especially with the all-important 3-2 lead which Barangay Ginebra San Miguel took following a
over Meralco.
Ginebra was also victorious in front of the
in Game 4 last Wednesday, also at the Big Dome.
Even before the attendance was announced, Araneta security was already telling those with Standing Room Only tickets to refrain from sitting in the stadium stairs.
The latest mark could last until Game 6, with a bigger crowd expected to gather once again at the Big Dome in anticipation of a potential Ginebra clincher on Wednesday.
Game 7, if necessary, is set Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
