After starring in the Netflix movie “The Adam Project,” young actor Walker Scobell is set to portray the titular role in the upcoming series adaptation of Rick Riordan’s “
.”
“Walker Scobell is an incredibly talented young man who blew us away with his audition tapes for the role of Percy,” Riordan wrote on his
. “Many of you recently discovered how great Walker is when you watched his movie The Adam Project, in which Walker lit up the screen as a younger version of Ryan Reynolds’ character. We were fortunate enough to audition Walker months before that movie came out, but the film only confirmed what we already knew about his talent. It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark, and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson.”
The news of the casting was announced to the actor by the Riordan himself on Jan. 28 via Zoom. According to him, Scobell is also a big fan of the fantasy-adventure novel, “having read everything through The Trials of Apollo.”
Last January, Riordan shared that the series already got the green light from the streaming platform Disney+. Reports state that it looks like the upcoming show will be based on the first book of the series that centers on the heroic tales of the 12-year-old modern demigod and son of Poseidon.
Based on the book’s synopsis, “Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction—Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him.”
Prior to this much-awaited show, the novel series’ books “Lightning Thief” and “Sea of Monsters” were made into live-action films in 2010 and 2013 with Logan Lerman as the lead.
We definitely can’t wait to see Scobell as Percy at Camp Half-Blood.
