Presidential aspirant Senator Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao on Monday expressed confidence that he will get a huge number of votes from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who already started casting their votes for the 2022 polls, as he cited laws he authored in their favor.
“Alam naman ng mga OFWs na at least once upon a time naging fans ko yung mga OFW pag ako ay lumalaban so alam nila na tumatakbo ako. Siguro naman nakita nila yung programa natin dahil matagal na nating pinopost natin sa social media (Once upon a time, OFWs were my fans when I would fight in the ring. So for sure, they would also know that I am now running. Perhaps, they have seen my programs, which I have been posting on social media),” Pacquiao said during his campaign activity in Zamboanga Del Norte.
Aside from taking in pride in being the world’s greatest boxer, Pacquiao believed he would get support from OFWs because of his various pro-OFWs measures, which include the Republic Act 11227 or the Handbook for OFWs Act of 2018
Meanwhile, Pacquiao urged the public to maintain their trust in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) despite various poll-related issues, such as delayed delivery of election paraphernalia.
“Magtiwala lang tayo sa Comelec at sa lahat ng mga namamahala at sa mga guro na in-charge sa election. Alam naman natin ang trabaho nila, ginagampanan talaga nila ang trabaho nila para makita ang malinis at matagumpay ang halalan 2022 (Let’s trust the Comelec and all the governing agencies and teachers in charge of the elections. We know their jobs and they’re doing their responsibility to maintain the integrity of the 2022 elections),” he said.
