When thinking of an image of an empowered woman, what usually comes to mind is a vision of a goddess. That’s why in fashion, many designers look at many female deities for inspiration when they want to depict a beautiful, wise, and strong woman through their clothing. That creative spirit can be seen in the arrival look of Pauline Amelinckx, Bohol’s delegate to Miss Universe Philippines 2022.
Last April 9, the top 32 finalists of the pageant come together in Manila to fire up the season leading to its coronation night on April 30 at SM Mall of Asia Arena. For the event, Pauline donned a look that pays homage to the Olympian goddess of wisdom and war.
“I’m an avid fan of Greek goddesses and most of the time, my creations are derived from their mythology,” designer Mikee Andrei tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “The ensemble is inspired by Athena but with a subtle Filipina twist hence the sleeves.”
Described as a “sexy yet powerful” look, the piece is made of a stretched matte textile exuding a shimmering brown-bronze hue, the perfect color to highlight the tan skin of the Boholano-Belgian beauty. According to Mikee, the piece was done overnight for a shoot and was tweaked to suit the event’s red carpet.
“Always a breeze and fun,” the designer describes working with the beauty queen. “People may not know this but the two of us have a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, not just about pageant but with life in general. We talk with each other often and I always consider her ideas and inputs.”
“Mikee Andrei brand is known for romanticism and femininity,” Mikee continues. “Pauline has been working on her body for over a year so we want to flaunt that and celebrate it. Her style has always been class and chic. That is why we are always a team.”
