Globe At Home fiber capacity up 38.6% (Sabong News)

Globe At Home’s fiber capacity soared 38.6 percent quarter-on-quarter as its customer base correspondingly shot up 36.5 percent as more Filipinos shifted to a digital lifestyle, the telco reported Monday, April 11. Globe rolled out 1.4 million Fiber To The Home (FTTH) lines last year in response to the huge demand for faster connectivity at home. This aggressive fiber rollout resulted in a dramatic 208 percent increase in consolidated fiber take up for 2021. FTTH is considered a more effective and reliable way to deliver data due to faster connection speeds, higher bandwidth capacity, and lower latency. It is more durable than bulky copper lines and is resistant to electromagnetic and radio signal interference. “Putting fiber to homes remains a focus area for Globe as we aspire to expand our reach and market share,” remarked Barbie Dapul, Globe At Home VP for Marketing. “We continue to invest in this area as we see huge potential to expand our fiber footprint nationwide,” she noted. The accelerated digital habits of Filipinos amid the pandemic yielded exceptional performance for Globe Telecom Inc.’s broadband business in 2021. Globe At Home service revenues reached a 10 percent increase to a record-high of P29.4 billion in 2021 from P26.8 billion in 2020. This also surpassed 2019’s pre-pandemic revenues by 35 percent. For this year, Globe has earmarked P89 billion in capital expenditures to ramp up the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide, build new cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G/LTE, and accelerate the rollout of 5G connectivity. The expansion remains driven by home broadband and corporate data, given the increased data consumption for work, education, health care, business, entertainment, and essential social interaction.
