Presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao, a devout Christian who recently said “if you kill, you commit a sin,” has warned drug personalities that he will publicly kill those who will import illegal drugs in the country if he becomes the country’s leader.
“Kaya kung ako ang magiging pangulo tuloy ang war on drugs. Pero hindi ko papatayin lahat ng user diyan. Ang papatayin ko at i-public ko pa iyong mga nagpapasok dito ng droga dahil sila ang salot (So if I become the president, war on drugs will continue. I will not kill all the users. Who I will kill will be the drug importers and I will do it publicly because they are a burden),” he said during the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-sponsored debate on Sunday night.
Pacquiao also said that he will investigate the Duterte administration’s deadly war on drugs to prove if there are really extrajudicial killings that happened.
While he said he knows that there are human rights abuses committed, he cannot make it a basis to stop the government’s fight against illegal drugs.
That was why he believed that drug importers, particularly the big ones, must not be punished and not the users.
“Sila ang dapat parusahan dahil kawawa ang mga mahihirap at iyon ang nadadamay, iyong mga user (They should be punished because I pity for the poor, for the users, who are just being dragged),” he said.
Nevertheless, Pacquiao said he will also not tolerate law enforcers who will violate the law and abuse human rights, although he also said that as a president, he will also protect them.
Pacquiao has been known for his pro-life stance, particularly his opposition against abortion.
During the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) election forum, Pacquiao said the lives of the unwanted children must not be taken because “if you kill, you commit a sin” and “it is not us who gives life.”
