The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has appointed a new deputy governor for the Corporate Services Sector (CSS), Eduardo G. Bobier, the central bank’s head of comptrollership with the rank of assistant governor prior to his new post.
Bobier replaces Ma. Almasara Cyd N. Tuano-Amador, who has retired as BSP deputy governor. Tuano-Amador briefly served as BSP Governor-in-Charge in 2019 after the passing of the late Nestor A. Espenilla Jr, the BSP’s fourth governor.
Bobier was appointed last March 1. “I am committed to ensuring the effective management of BSP’s financial and physical resources in support of its core functions. I also pledge to uphold the highest standards of integrity in public service as I have done over the past 35 years with the BSP,” he said in a statement late Friday, April 1.
Bobier, similar to Tuano-Amador, is a homegrown BSP official, originally from the Department of Economic Research as a statistician and then he later transferred to the treasury and accounting department. He became the head of the treasury unit of the BSP.
He also served as chairman of the BSP’s budget committee. It was only last year that Bobier was appointed as assistant governor and “responsible for the maintenance of the accounting records of the central bank,” said the BSP.
“In this role, Deputy Governor Bobier will ensure the prudent and effective management of the BSP’s resources in support of its core functions,” said the BSP.
Bobier, a certified public accountant, took his Master’s in Business Administration at De La Salle University in Manila. He earned from the Manuel L. Quezon University his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, major in accounting, magna cum laude.
The BSP currently has four deputy governors. It was under BSP Governor Benjamin E. Diokno that BSP acquired its fourth governor following the 2019 approval of the amended BSP Charter.
Previously, the BSP only has three deputy governors. Under the new BSP law, it is allowed to have five deputy governors. The fifth slot has yet to be filled up.
