Robredo family, volunteers take campaign to next level: house-to-house (Sabong News)

No less than 10,000 of Vice President Leni Robredo’s family members, celebrity supporters, and volunteers launched the Grand House-to-House Campaign nationwide on Saturday, April 2, to kick off the next phase in their campaign a month before Election Day. With the hashtag #TaoSaTaoParaKayRobredo, the campaign team said this is to impart Robredo’s platform and bring in more Filipinos to their side ahead of the May 9 polls. Robredo’s daughters—Aika and Tricia—and other relatives, including niece Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and her family, and sister-in-law Dr. Penny Robredo-Bundoc, joined supporters and volunteers in encouraging the public to choose the Vice President as the country’s next leader. Aika and actress Marjorie Barretto visited different areas in Quezon City while Dr. Tricia courted voters in Cavite, including vote-rich Cavite City, Imus, and General Trias. Doing house-to-house campaign is not new for the Robredos. Aika said they have been doing this kind of campaign since their father, the late former Interior secretary Jesse Robredo, ran for three terms as mayor of Naga City. When Robredo run as congresswoman of the third district of Camarines Sur in 2013, they did the same. “When my sisters and I go around and help out with the campaign, we usually make it a point to visit the public markets or do house-to-house campaigning,” Aika said. Contrary to their experience on social media, Aika shared that most of the people who support other candidates are friendlier and more receptive during their face-to-face interaction. “We both experienced being heckled a couple of times by supporters of other candidates. Pero pag nilapitan naman sila, maayos pa rin ang pakikitungo (but when we go near them, they still talk to us kindly),” she said, adding that it’s a good reminder for all that voters shouldn’t fight among themselves. Personally talking to the people is also the best way to combat fake news and disinformation on social media, the young Robredo stressed. She is confident that her mother’s supporters and volunteers would conduct their own house-to-house activities in their respective localities in the coming weeks. Other members of Robredo’s family went around, too. Vitas went to Pasay while Bundoc and actress Pinky Amador campaigned in Dumaguete City. Meanwhile, Robredo’s celebrity supporters, actresses Agot Isidro and Angel Locsin, conducted house-to-house campaign in Bohol and Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, respectively. Simultaneous house-to-house drives are also being conducted in Isabela, Ilocos Sur, Pampanga, Dinagat, Surigao del Norte, Surigao City, Cebu , Quirino, Butuan City, Nueva Vizcaya, North Cotabato (Kidapawan), Zamboanga del Norte, Capiz, Calbayog, Davao City, Davao del Sur, and South Cotabato. Isidro shared that doing house to house campaigning gave her a “good feeling of the ground,” especially in areas that are not supportive of the Vice President’s campaign yet. Robredo is gunning for the country’s top post under the platform of “Oplan Angat Agad.” The focus of the platform is on employment, health, and education.
