For a majority of our hotels and dining establishments, it’s about pressing the Restart button, and flexing their muscles as they embrace what hopefully will be the road to normalcy or the new version of what qualifies as our post-COVID world. The New World Makati was one of my pre-pandemic favorite haunts for various reasons, so it was good to drop by and find out what they have in store for us this summer.
When I say various reasons, let me put it out there right away that their Chinese restaurant Jasmine would be number one on that list of reasons. It’s one of my go-to’s for great Cantonese food and when I posted about my visit, the photos of Jasmine and their seafood taro puff got immediate reactions from the likes of Menchu Katigbak and Dioceldo Sy who both declared Jasmine as their favorite as well. For Dioceldo, it’s where he heads to when he wants high-quality, and a variety of, dim sum.
Their staycations packages are back in place and they’re seeking a wide diversity of potential bookings. They’re also offering packages for romantic couples. There’s even a Movie Night package for the family that can involve watching your favorite Netflix streaming content while popcorn and drinks are brought to your suite. The Residents Lounge on one of the top floors can be your little getaway for meals as it’s an exclusive enclave for those who are taking suites on two special floors.
For corporate function and events, the fourth floor offers a diversity of options. There’s one double suite that employs a green screen set up that should be a novel way to make your company’s team building sessions, or conferences, have an added quotient of fun. And, of course, the more traditional, serious set-ups are ready for your use.
The proximity of these function/corporate rooms, under the Press Club floor moniker, also enjoys easy access to the New World pool area. It’s a perfect place to enjoy your post-conference dinners and where the people can unwind after a day’s work. A little dinner was tendered in this area to allow us the experience, and get a good idea of how this would happen with great ambiance.
On the New World’s second floor the grand function rooms are all ready for banquet bookings. I was informed that the New World was especially popular for engagement parties of Filipino-Chinese families, and they acquired the services of an events group that specializes in such occasions. There was a mock-up of such a party, and I was impressed by the amount of detail placed into the effort—how certain traditions come into play so it’s done properly and meet the approval of the family’s patriarch or matriarch.
On the lobby which is located at ground floor level, The Lounge is back in full operation. You have to try the berry bramble, a refreshing mocktail that has been created as a healthy welcome drink. A new whiskey bar is being set up in this area, and that should soon be a favorite hangout for the discriminating executive crowd of Makati.
The proximity of New World Makati to the refurbished Greenbelt 3 didn’t escape me. I easily imagined how lady friends could band together for staycations with shopping as their number one priority in the daytime.
Head to the New World Makati Facebook and IG page to learn more about their offerings and what possibilities beckon. Me, you’ll find me at Jasmine, enjoying their dim sum!
