Mark Nonoy cannot help but show excitement after suiting up in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) since transferring schools and recovering from his hamstring injury.
This time as an Archer donning the green and white, Nonoy credited the De La Salle coaching staff and physical therapists for taking good care of him especially after sitting out in the opening game of the UAAP Season 84 last March 26.
After all, Nonoy and De La Salle are aiming for the long run as the league started in an unfamiliar sight with the bubble setup.
“Umasa ako sa first game na makakalaro na ako pero ginawa ng PT and coaches namin na magpahinga muna kasi para naman sa akin,” said the Season 82 Rookie of the Year winner.
“Sobrang thankful ako na nakalaro ako ng second game and thankful din ako kay coach [Derrick Pumaren] and sa mga teammates ko na tumulong and para sa amin po lahat itong panalong to,” Nonoy added as
for its second straight win at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Tuesday, March 29.
Nonoy showed the way for the Green Archers off the bench with 13 points including three triples, four assists and three steals.
Completing the one-two punch for De La Salle was veteran big man Justine Baltazar who scored 13 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
The 5-foot-8 speedy guard, along with Deo Cuajao, transferred to the Taft-based squad after figuring in a controversial “Sorsogon bubble” in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic with former team University of Santo Tomas, then mentored by Aldin Ayo, who was also a champion coach in 2016 with De La Salle.
This marked a memorable comeback for Nonoy since suiting up in the UAAP Season 82 Finals against reigning champion Ateneo as a Growling Tiger.
