UST Angelicum promotes ethics and social responsibility at 5th Media Congress
Author MB Lifestyle
Date MARCH 24 2022
University of Santo Tomas (UST) Angelicum College, the country’s leading academic institution in the self-paced and non-graded Catholic education, and its Bachelor of Arts in Communication Program stages the 5th Annual Media Congress themed “Media and Mission.” The Congress will be streamed live at UST Angelicum College’s official Facebook account from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on April 1. “We make it a point to have this event every year because the Communication program believes that there is a need to reinforce what the students learn inside the classroom, through exposure on recent situations and issues of media and values significance,” says UST Angelicum College’s Communication Chair Dr. Glenn Reynon. This year’s congress will be different and special as it aims to heighten the excitement for Angelicum College’s celebration of its 50th founding anniversary this July with the theme “Dream Beyond.” The virtual event’s main goal is to enlighten attendees, mostly higher education and senior high school students across the country with a clearer understanding of the ethical significance and social responsibility involved in using the various channels of communication. Apart from that, the 2022 Media Congress aims to encourage the future media practitioners and society leaders to think, speak, act, and live with the mission of responding to the needs of the society through the virtues of veritas— truth, caritas—charity, justitia—justice, and fortitudo—fortitude, which are all part of UST Angelicum’s core values. With significant cases of disinformation and misinformation in our current times, our young students who will be our future media practitioners must discern and choose their sources accordingly. Media and mission stalwarts who will speak during the congress include Robi Domingo, Ernie Lopez, and Michelle Arville from ABS-CBN Corporation, Pia Arcangel from GMA Network, Liza Diño-Seguerra from Film Development Council of the Philippines, Rev. Fr. Luciano Felloni from Kristong Hari Parish, and Diocesan Shrine of the Youth, Patricia Non from Community Pantry, Marie Gold Villar-Lim from Philippine Educational Theater Association, and Jules Guiang from Rappler.
