The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has uncovered another ploy by undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in leaving the country too seek jobs abroad.
In a statement, the BI said the strategy is for the OFWs to bring with them their respective family members to their target destination in order to make it appear that the travel is legitimately for vacation purposes.
Ma. Temotea Barozo, head of the BI Travel Control and Enforcement Unit, said the OFWs would just present tourist visas and when they arrived in the destination, the OF would not travel back to the country.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente again repeated his advice to Filipinos desiring to work abroad to secure job permit only from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration before leaving the country.
“A legitimate OFW gets protection and immediate assistance from the government in case of trouble,” he said.
He noted that illegal OFWs are prone to abuse by their heartless employers.
