South Build Esports swept Indian team Velocity Gaming, 2-0, to catch the last bus to the VCT 2022: Challengers playoffs on Monday, March 21.
With its tournament lives on the line, Deko “PapiChulo” Evangelista and Johnty “JA” Aronte took turns in leading the attack for SBE to keep their bid to qualify to the Valorant Masters: Reykjavík within its grasps.
Papichulo stepped up to the plate with 20 kills on the Killjoy to spark the Game 1 comeback from the Filipinos after a forgettable start that saw them trail 4-8 before the switch in its own map pick in Ascent.
Papichulo anchored the defending side in the second half as they limited the Indian side to just three points to take a narrow 13-11 victory.
SBE kept its stronghold in Game 2 in Haven as it outgunned Velocity 8-4 in the first half. The Indians tried to regain foothold in its map pick after taking the first two rounds after the switch. JA paced the team with 23 kills on the Astra as SBE finished the double-elimination group stage with a 2-1 record.
