Ka Leody cites 5 ways on how to counter another Covid-19 surge in PH (Sabong News)

Labor leader and Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM) presidential candidate Leodegario “Ka Leody” De Guzman put forward five solutions for how the Philippines would weather another Covid-19 surge.
This, after he was asked if he thought that the Philippine could handle another Covid-19 surge.
“Una, akuin ng gobyerno yung responsibilidad sa kalusugan ng ating mamamayan, wag i-asa sa pribado, wag gawin negosyo (First, the government should take responsibility for the health of its citizens, stop depending on the private sector, don’t make it a business),” De Guzman said at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) PiliPinas Debates 2022 on Saturday, March 19.
His second point was the issue of food shortage; he says that achieving food security should be considered a solution to the pandemic as feeding the country will keep citizens healthy and less vulnerable to disease.
“Maglaan tayo ng sapat na budget doon sa ating sektor ng kalusugan at yung ating mga health workers, i-provide natin yung kanilang mga pangangailangan. Dagdag ng mga personnel at i-engganyo natin yung ating mamamayan na paramihin pa natin yung mga health workers (Let’s allocate a proper budget to the health sector. Let’s give health workers what they need. Add more personnel and let’s encourage our citizens so we can increase the number of health workers),” De Guzman explained as his third point.
His fourth point was prioritizing research and development of better pharmaceuticals.
“Kinakailangan natin mag-invest para sa pagtuklas ng bagong gamot and even vaccine. Hindi pwede ng tayong aasa lamang sa kung anong matitira sa malalaking bansa (we need to invest in creating new medicines, and even vaccines. We can’t just depend on the scraps of rich countries),” De Guzman explained.
Lastly, he pushed to address corruption in the Department of Health (DOH).
“Magkaroon tayo ng mahusay na kinatawan sa ating DOH… Maiwasan ang nakawan sa DOH. Kailangan yung bawat sentimo sa budget dyan ay magamit sa kalusugan ng ating mamamayan (We need better representatives in the DOH… Avoid theft in the DOH. Each cent of the budget needs to go to the health of our citizens),” he concluded.
De Guzman is running for the presidency in the 2022 polls on May 9 under PLM alongside running mate Walden Bello.
