Miss Philippines Tracy Maureen Perez and 39 other candidates joined the national costume parade for the 70th Miss World finals in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 16 (March 17, Manila time)
Perez wore a national costume created by Axel Que, a fashion designer from Cebu.
The Cebuana beauty queen called her national costume as “Mayari.”
“Moon Goddess and daughter of Bathala. Hailed as the most beautiful deity, she has complete dominion of the world at night. The moon has been revered as a celestial being by most ancient civilizations in antiquity. Apart from its mysterious allure, it has also been though to have great cosmic influence on the mortal realm.
“My rendition incorporated a lot of traditional forms as the base silhouette, with slight exaggerations in the proportion and volume. For embellishment, I crafted white & purple moon flowers ( morning glory/ moon vine ) from scratch, and added the gradient shading in the middle to give it more depth. Pearls and tassels thoughtfully border the hemlines,” Perez said.
Only the 40 semi-finalists are now competing at the Miss World finals in Puerto Rico. They are composed of candidates chosen by the judges and fast-track winners.
Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica, now the longest-reigning Miss World in history, will finally crown her successor, after more than two years of cancellation due to Covid-19.
