Blacklist Ultimate asserted its mastery of Singaporean rival ALMGHTY with a 3-0 sweep in the Grand Finals to claim the Garena Masters 2022 Season 1 title on Sunday, March 13.
The 2021 CODM Worlds East champions cruised to the dominant sweep in the Finale to bag the team’s first major tournament title of the year and the $10,000 top prize.
John Benedict “Jaben” Julio, Railey “Yobabs” Abrenica, Gian “Yato” Socao, Martin “Tin” Yap, Averson “Skerd” Salaya and Aj “Eiji” Agbing were simply unstoppable in the rematch of the protagonists of the CODM Worlds East Finals, opening the series with a lopsided 150-64 win in Hardpoint in the Firing Range.
The squad then followed it up with another scintillating 6-3 win in Search and Destroy in Raid before putting the finishing touches in the Domination in Standoff with a 150-133 triumph.
It was a fitting end to the dominant run for Blacklist which reached the Grand Finals through the upper bracket, dispatching fellow Filipino teams C8 United and C8 Legacy in the first two rounds.
Blacklist then sailed through turbulent waters against another PH bet in M420 Lowkings but managed to come out on top with a narrow 3-2 series win.
ALMGHTY, meanwhile, had to overcome tough challenges in the lower bracket after it fell to C8 Legacy in the first round of the upper bracket. It then since survived C8 United, Malaysian squad SEM9 and Filipino powerhouse Omega Esports in the lower bracket semis.
ALMGHTY swept M420 Lowkings, 3-0, in the lower bracket finals to arrange the Grand Finals showdown against the same team that shattered its CODM Worlds dreams.
