The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday assured that its investigation into the disappearance of some sabungeros is already underway.
“As we have stated during the Senate inquiry on the missing cockfight gamers, rest assured that the PNP is on top of the investigation,” the PNP said in a statement.
“The probe of the cases has been ongoing and important pieces of evidence continue to be gathered,” it added.
The PNP issued the statement in response Malacañang’s order to probe the cases of missing sabungeros.
In a memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on March 8, the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation were directed to conduct a thorough investigation on the disappearances and to submit its finding to the Office of the President and the Department of Justice within 30 days.
“Pursuant to the President’s directive, the PNP reiterates its commitment to meet the 30-day period for the submission of the case findings,” it said.
In the said memorandum, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR was also tasked to look into any violation of its e-sabong licenses and to ensure compliance with the security, and surveillance requirements under its Regulatory Framework for E-Sabong Off-Cockpit Betting Station.
The security and surveillance for e-sabong operations particularly require the installation of CCTV Systems in gaming sites, among others.
The order was issued after the Senate approved a resolution expressing its sense to strongly urge PAGCOR to suspend the license to operate of e-sabong operators and to immediately stop all activities related to e-sabong until the cases of the missing sabungeros are resolved.
