TACLOBAN CITY – Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Bernard M. Banac has ordered a 60-day suspension for a policeman who allegedly maintained an “e-sabong” operation in Kananga, Leyte.
Personnel from the Kananga Municipal Police Station and Leyte Police Provincial Office raided SSgt. Jeffrey Cabelin’s place where e-sabong was reportedly being conducted.
While Cabelin was not present during the raid, a case for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or prescribing stiffer penalties on illegal gambling, was filed against him and his brother.
Cabelin was also charged administratively with grave misconduct subject to the issuance of a Certificate of Finality after the prescribed reglamentary period, without him filing for a motion for reconsideration.
“Following the specific instructions of the Chief, Philippine National Police, against erring personnel, I am giving a stern warning to every police officer under my watch. This PRO will not tolerate any wrongdoing of our personnel in the ranks. We will lodge appropriate charges to anyone caught violating our laws and internal rules and regulations,” Banac said.
He also appealed to the public to report similar involvements of police officers in illegal activities.
