Mayor Michael Torrevillas of this town has hailed the leadership of the Senate to stop the operation of e-sabong after the chamber's investigation of the disappearance of 32
(cockfighting aficionados) in Metro Manila.
Torrevillas said their local government unit (LGU) through the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) led by Vice Mayor Bushi Torrevillas is probably the only LGU in the country that passed last year a resolution calling an end to e-sabong, an online gambling game.
He lauded Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson whom they sent a copy of their SB resolution calling for an end to the online game.
"I thank the senators for calling an end to this e-sabong, and we are probably the only LGU to pass a resolution asking President Rodrigo Duterte and the Senate to stop this e-sabong because of its ill-effects and destruction of the lives of our people in our town," Torrevillas said in an interview with
.
Although no one has been missing from their town, the mayor noted that e-sabong has affected many lives of his constituents who gamble instead of focusing on their farming or livelihood to sustain their families.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Matag-ob also sent copies of their resolution to Duterte and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte, strongly calling for an end to the e-sabong run by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
