MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte expressed dismay over reports of Filipinos violating the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), even holding cockfighting and drinking sessions despite the threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.
In his public address on Thursday (April 16), the President warned to cut government aid to quarantine violators if they persist in ignoring social distancing and curfew measures.
“For those people who are identified by the barangay captains and the mayors, who are violating the quarantine,
(sorry but), help would not arrive,” Duterte said.
The President noted that food supply in the country is getting lower and feeding 18 million families for weeks now has obviously depleted government resources.
“
] (You have money for cockfighting. You have money for drinking, I might as well give the aid to those who are really in need),” the President said.
“There’s not enough to go around.
(There’s really not enough),” he said.
