CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 has made 894 arrests during its weeklong anti-criminality operations last week.
This number comprises the arrested individuals for illegal drugs, gambling, and possession of firearms, among others.
Of the 894, gambling suspects topped the list with 387 illegal gamblers arrested within the period.
This was followed by 239 drug personalities, who yielded roughly 3.8 kilos of illegal drugs with an equivalent standard drug price of about P26,374,924, as stated in the report by the Regional Tactical Operation Center.
The police office had also recovered 142 registered firearms and nine explosives, with 17 people possessing unlicensed guns arrested.
Lastly, it also served 251 pending warrants of arrest to 28 most wanted persons (MWP) and nabbed 223 other wanted persons.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) acknowledged that the province had a recurring problem with illegal gambling, particularly illegal cockfighting.
Earlier this week, 27 individuals were arrested for holding an illegal cockfight in Barangay Calajoan in Minglanilla town, Southern Cebu.
Although no live e-sabong operations were done, the organizers of the activity failed to show necessary permits authorizing its conduct.
Police Major Reslyn Abella, CPPO public information officer, said they would strengthen their anti-illegal gambling operations by constantly monitoring their areas of responsibility to check the presence of these activities. —
