PRO 7 to police chiefs: Curb ‘e-sabong’ or else (Latest Sabong News)
THE Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) will implement a “one-strike policy” against police station chiefs who do not perform well when it comes to eliminating e-sabong, or online cockfighting operations, in their respective jurisdictions.
PRO 7 Director Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba said the one-strike policy aims to warn police officials under his watch that he won’t tolerate their failure to address illegal gambling.
Last week, PRO 7 arrested more than 300 e-sabong bettors and operators.
Alba said they will not stop until they contain all illegal gambling activities in the region, including the unauthorized numbers game swertres.
“Even if it is happening in his or her area of responsibility and he or she did not do anything, but another unit acted on it, he or she will be removed from his or her position,” Alba said in Tagalog.
Alba also ordered all station commanders to monitor their men who may have acted as protectors of e-sabong operators.
He also urged the public to immediately report to their nearest police station any sighting of e-sabong operations in their community.
Following the order of former president Rodrigo Duterte to stop e-sabong operations in May 2022 due to some irregularities such as the disappearance of some gambling personalities, there were still several others who continued the illegal gambling activity through their cellphones, where they place their bets.
In line with this, the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame issued a directive to all police personnel all over the country to go after e-sabong operators who go underground.
