Girl, 12, killed in Basilan blast (Latest Sabong News)

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A 12-year-old girl died while her mother was wounded when an improvised bomb exploded in a remote village in Lamitan City,Basilan yesterday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Saibi Haddalun while Neneng Haddalun was injured. The victims were harvesting root crops, reports said.
The Lamitan City police reported the improvised explosive device went off on the roadside of Barangay Sabong about 4 p.m.
Police tagged the Abu Sayyaf as the ones responsible for the attack, saying it was a tactic to divert the military operation against the bandits in the mountains of Sumisip town.
The Abu Sayyaf is holding several hostages. An Army junior officer was killed and four other troopers were wounded in the operation at Barangay Cabcaban Thursday.
